Airbus A400M Atlas
Airbus A400M Atlas of the French Air and Space Force is a powerful, four-engine transport aircraft, measuring 44 meters in length, with a wingspan of 42 meters and a height of nearly 15 meters. Each of its four engines delivers approximately 11,000 horsepower. It can carry up to around 37 tonnes of cargo, including heavy military vehicles, helicopters, or engineering equipment. Importantly, the A400M combines strategic capabilities (long-range flights) with tactical ones – it can operate from short and unpaved runways, making it particularly useful in combat zones and during humanitarian missions.
The A400M was designed as a multi-role platform. In addition to transport duties, it can serve as an aerial refueling tanker (for both aircraft and helicopters), conduct medical evacuation missions with the installation of MEDEVAC modules, and perform highly precise airdrops of paratroopers and cargo. The A400M program was one of the largest joint defense industry projects in Europe, carried out by a consortium of NATO and EU member states, making it a symbol of European technological and military cooperation.
