An-2
An-2 is the largest single-engine biplane ever mass-produced. Despite its 1930s-style appearance, it continued to be built for decades after World War II. The An-2 could take off and land on very short, unprepared strips, even farmland. Its simple construction made it easy to repair and highly resilient in harsh operating conditions. A lot An-2 airplanes were produced in Poland.
During the Vietnam War, the An-2 was used by North Vietnamese forces for supply transport and occasionally even for night attack missions. Ironically, its low speed sometimes made it harder to detect on radar systems optimized for faster aircraft.
