Lockheed P-38 Lightning
Lockheed P-38 “Lightning” is a twin-engine American aircraft best known for its use in the Pacific theatre during World War II. The aircraft has an incredible shape that cannot be confused with any other. Powered by two Allison V-12 engines with 1600 horsepower, the Lightning, which weighs almost 8 tonnes, can reach speeds of 760 km/h and a ceiling that modern jets can reach.
The plane you will see in Leszno was built in 1944 and remains the only flying P-38 Lightning in Europe. Red Bull points out that it is one of the most priceless planes in the team’s collection. The logistics of acquiring and transporting the plane from the United States to Europe took 4 years and today, thanks to Red Bull’s efforts, we can see this unique aircraft on the Old Continent. According to various estimates, there are only 6 to about 10 airworthy P-38s in the world. It is a great privilege to see this plane in the sky and we will experience it in Leszno in June!
