Saab SK.60
SK.60, internationally known as the Saab 105, is a remarkable aircraft that served as a cornerstone of pilot training in Sweden for nearly six decades. Developed by Saab AB in the early 1960s, with its versatility – from basic training through light attack and reconnaissance roles – the SK.60 became one of Sweden’s longest-serving military aircraft, with around 150 built for Swedish use and an additional 40 for Austria.
The SK.60’s design is notable for its high-wing configuration, T-tail, and twin engines mounted alongside the fuselage. Its side-by-side cockpit layout made it ideally suited for training, allowing instructor pilots to closely monitor and guide their students. Over the years, upgrades to engines and avionics helped keep the aircraft relevant and extend its operational life.
After its formal retirement from military service in June 2024, the SK 60 marked the end of an era in Swedish jet training, but its legacy lives on. These jets are returning to the skies with the Swedish Air Force Historic Flight civilian fleet and will be showcased at airshows such as Antidotum Aiurshow Leszno. This makes the appearance of the SK 60 a particularly exciting highlight – not just for aviation enthusiasts but for anyone who appreciates the history and character of classic military jet aircraft.
